Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. It is a secular organization open to all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, or political preference. There are 34,282 clubs and over 1.2 million members worldwide. The members of Rotary Clubs are known as Rotarians. Members usually meet weekly for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, which is a social event as well as an opportunity to organize work on their service goals.
Rotary’s primary motto is “Service Above Self”; its secondary motto is, “One profits most who serves best.”
Rotary is 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world.
Rotary International supports Rotary clubs worldwide by coordinating global programs, campaigns, and initiatives. The organization is divided into 34 zones throughout the world. Each of 17 zone directors heads two zones and sits on the Rotary International Board of Directors.
The Sumter Rotary Club is located in Zone 33 which stretches along the east coast from Maryland to Florida.
Each zone supports about 15 Rotary Districts. Districts help clubs connect to each other and access Rotary resources. Our club and about 80 others in eastern South Carolina are part of District 7770.
